The next event of the Solo Performance PDX Events, hosted by St. Louis Region SCCA will be Wednesday May 7, 2008 at Gateway Raceway. Yes, that day and date are correct. The event is a weekday and will be held 3PM to sunset. A driving experience is an opportunity to work with an instructor and get practice in car handling and precision driving in your own car. This is a non-competitive, un-timed event.

The Wednesday event series dates remaining are May 7 and May 21. This series was developed in partnership with Gateway Raceway to offer busy car enthusiast another option to bond with their car and get some seat and smile time. Chuck DeProw, PDX Program Chairman, said “Gateway has had a lot of attendance for their weekday drag racing events and we thought that the same might be true for the track day events”, he went on to say “and we were correct!”. “We were worried about getting volunteers to staff the event might be hard, but we have had great people step up to help out”. Volunteers also have a big incentive to help. For each time they come out their name will be entered in a drawing to win a ½ day PDX event on October 19, 2008 FREE!

Solo Divisional News
By Sheila Burkett (saburkett) @ 9:59 AM :: General :: 0 Comments :: 93 Views
Four St. Louis Region Solo Drivers brought home Divisional Solo Trophies from the R&S and Solo Performance Specialties Event #1 in the MiDiv Divisional Solo Series held on April 19 and 20, 2008 in Kansas City.

Joe Floretta brought home a 1st place in FSP, Dave Whitworth 1st ESP, Carla Russo 1st in CPL, Morgan Baskett in EP and Andy Hohl a 2nd in ESP. The also rans were, Chris Hammond, Lynn Wilson, Janice Rick and Kyle Langley. Fun was had by all.

The event was held on the Arrowhead Stadium parking lot and featured large long courses. The weather started out cold Sat. morning, but warmed up later to a nice day and pretty much stayed that way for the rest of the event.

The event was best described by Kyle Langley, first time Divisional Driver

“Just got back from my first Midiv in Kansas City and all I can say is do yourself a favor and go to a divisional. The course was wide open and fast! Things happen FAST and when I crossed the finish line each time my heart was beating, I was out of breath and my hands were shaking!! The competition was a notch above local and I got my ass handed to me on day one by last year's Midiv FS champion Don Knopp by 3 seconds. Day two I got to within 1.3 seconds and actually out-timed some cars in faster classes. The stepped-up competition forced me to improve fast and also allowed me to work on new things and push the car even harder.

The highlight of the weekend beyond the driving was watching Andy Hohl and Dave Whitworth battle in ESP. Andy led in the Shelby GT after day one by about a tenth, I believe. Day two, Andy led until Dave's last run and he beat Andy by 2 tenths and change, I think, to take the win. It was the talk of the event and a real joy to watch some awesome driving ability.

Do yourself a favor and sign up for Memorial Day and drive against some of the best.”

A huge thanks to Al Herman and Donna Hill for co-chairing this event.

The R&S and Solo Performance Specialties Event #2 in the MiDiv Divisional Solo Series will be at Gateway Raceway May 25 & 26, 2008. For more info on that event and to register go to http://myautoevents.com/pls/mae/frmEventDetail.Show?psevent_id=8469
